The Bornova Küçük Mosque was built during the reign of Sultan Mahmud II (1808-1839) by Ömer Lütfü Bey, the governor of İzmir. The mosque, which underwent extensive repairs in 1912, has an unknown architect.

The Bornova Küçük Mosque was built during the reign of Sultan Mahmud II (1808-1839) by Ömer Lütfü Bey, the governor of İzmir. The mosque, which underwent extensive repairs in 1912, has an unknown architect.
Ömer Lütfi Bey, who also served as the governor of İzmir for a period (1829-1830), played a significant role in the establishment of the Feshane-i Amire (Imperial Fez Factory) during the reign of Mahmud II and served as its director. His advertisement for the fezzes produced by the Feshane, published in the Takvim-i Vekayi newspaper, the official publication of the time, is considered the first commercial advertisement published in the Turkish press.
