The Atatürk bust situated in the garden of the Ege University Faculty of Computer Engineering in Bornova holds the distinction of being the first Atatürk monument ever erected in Turkey. It is the only known monument whose unveiling Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk attended in person. According to available records, Atatürk did not subsequently attend the inauguration of any other monument.
The Yellow Mansion, now used as the Deanery of Ege University's Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, was built in the early 20th century. Information regarding the building's original ownership is not definitive. Certain secondary sources state that the mansion was acquired through compulsory purchase from a British subject for the İzmir Regional Agricultural School, though no documentary evidence confirming the identity of the said owner has been found.
The Yellow Mansion stands opposite the Bornova Railway Station, together with the Green Mansion and a number of neighbouring mansions that have not survived to the present day. The fields and plots lying between the present-day Ege University Hospital and the Green Mansion were compulsorily purchased in 1924–1925 to meet the needs of the Bornova Agricultural School, founded in December 1922. The Yellow Mansion, situated on one of these plots, was used as the school's administrative building until the school moved to new premises in 1933.
The building has largely preserved its original architectural character to the present day. Its interior features ornate fireplaces; on the front elevation stands an oval fountain pool, and in the garden, the Atatürk bust — the mansion's most prominent elements. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk visited the Yellow Mansion during his visit to Bornova on 18 June 1926. In commemoration of this visit, a bust of Atatürk by Austrian sculptor Heinrich Krippel was placed in the mansion's garden. This bust is recognised as the first Atatürk monument in Turkey.
In the early years of Ege University, founded in 1955, the mansion served as a guesthouse; it was subsequently used as the Faculty of Agriculture Social Club. Today, it continues in its function as the Deanery of the Ege University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences.
