The Bornova Tulip
The Bornova Tulip is an archaeological and historical site with an important place in Bornova's heritage of the earth.
Tulipa Clusiana, known as the Lady Tulip, was first introduced to the scientific world in 1803 by Belgian painter and botanist Pierre-Joseph Redoute. In the mid-20th century, the renowned botanist Peter Hadland Davis indicated Bornova-Kurutepe as the distribution area of this species in his 1984 work Flora of Turkey, and the tulip became synonymous with Bornova, eventually becoming known as the Bornova Tulip.
