Built as a summer house for the Lochner Family, the property remained in Douglas Whittall's possession until 1977 and is currently used as a cafe.
The Douglas Whittall House is situated near the entrance to 83rd Street — known to long-standing Bornova residents as "Long Street" — from Kazım Karabekir Avenue. In the late 19th century, part of the vineyards belonging to David Offley, then US Consul, was purchased by the Lochner family, and this building was constructed for use as a summer residence.
The Douglas Whittall House is a typical example of Bornova's Levantine settlement model, which was built upon a culture of vineyards. Having acquired a public function today, it contributes to Bornova's living heritage.
